A lot of instructors give the Library a copy of textbooks so students can read them in the Library for 2 hours. That’s right: The textbooks stay in the Library!
Guess you want to know which textbooks are available at the Gallatin Campus and at the Livingston Center. You can find out by doing a quick search in the Thigpen Library Catalog VSCC course reserves.
Search the name of your course, for example HED 120. Textbooks are located at the Circulation Desk on the Gallatin Campus and in the Library at Livingston. To borrow a textbook, tell the library staff the name of the course and have your Vol State I.D. with you.

On-site library service is available at the Livingston Center and the McGavock Center.
- The Livingston Library is located directly in front of the main building entrance. It is open when the Livingston Center is open, and it is staffed by a librarian during posted hours.
- The McGavock Library is located on the second floor above the Continuing Education Office. It is open 5:00 – 8:00 Monday – Thursday nights. A librarian is present each night.
Both libraries contain reference materials, and computer access to the Thigpen Library’s magazine and journal databases, ebooks, NoodleBib, streaming videos, plus the new library tutorial IRIS. When you need help developing a search strategy, ask the on-site librarian. If a librarian is not available, call 615.230.3405 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

A couple of tips to help your library experience be great:
- Bring your Vol State I.D. to check-out books, videos, laptop computers, study room keys and textbooks.
- Know your Vol State email username, e.g., jsmith5, and your password. You’ll need these to log on to the library computers. Don’t forget to log out, or someone else can use your account.
