How To: Check Faculty & Staff Email

  1. There are lots of ways to get to the portal log in screen, including the direct address portal.volstate.edu. But for the sake of this How To we’ll assume you start at the Vol State homepage.

  3. Open the “Quick Links” panel at the top of the page. You’ll find a link to “My VolState” under the “Student” heading.

  7. Enter your username and password and click the “Login” button. Students: Use your email username and password, not your V-Number. Faculty & Staff: Use the same username and password you use to log into your office computer or your email.

How to: Report Attendance

  1. Log into the My VolState portal at https://portal.volstate.edu/.
  2. Click on the “Banner” tab.
  3. Locate the “Faculty-and-Advisors-Menu”. By default it is in the right-hand column below the “Personal-Information” menu.
  4. Click the “Attendance Reporting” link.
  5. Choose the term from the select menu and click the submit button.
  6. The “Select CRN” screen will display all your courses for the selected term. Choose one from the select box and click the submit button.
  7. Choose the proper attendance status for each student and click the submit button.
  8. To report attendance for another course in the same term, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the “CRN Selection“ link.

Sometimes you know the name of the office or department you need to get in touch with, but you don’t have the name of a specific person. You can’t use the “People Finder” without a person’s name. So for those situations we provide the Office and Department Directory channel.

Where Is It?

  1. Log into the My VolState portal at https://portal.volstate.edu/.
  2. Click on the “Search” tab.
  3. The “Office and Department Directory” channel is the 2nd box down on the left-hand column by default.

How Do I Use It?

The channel loads initially sorted alphabetically by the office name. You may be able to quickly scan down the list until you spot what you are looking for. There is also a “Search” box. Typing in this box will automatically filter out any rows that don’t contain your search criteria. For example, typing “Ramer” in the box will filter the list to display only offices located in the Ramer building. Or typing “business” in the box will filter the list to only those offices with the word “business” in their title, such as “Business Division” and “Business Office”.

The channel displays the office name, location, phone number, and (if available) email address. You may email, call, or drop by in person.

If you don’t know the office or department that can help you but you’ve got the name of a faculty of staff member, use the “People Finder” instead.

People Finder Channel

The My VolState portal provides an advanced version of the “People Finder” you may already be familiar with from the main website. It allows for searches by first name or last name or both. It also allows for partial searches. So if you are not sure about the spelling of a name you can type in the first few letters. Just be warned that may turn up lots of results!

Where Is It?

  1. Log into the My VolState portal at https://portal.volstate.edu/.
  2. Click on the “Search” tab.
  3. The “People Finder” channel is at the top of the left-hand column by default.

How Do I Use It?

Type a full or partial name into either the “First Name” or “Last Name” fields (or both). The more specific you can be, the better your search results. It’s possible to do a search on just part of a name, such as first and last initial. Searching for the initials D. P. currently returns 3 results. Searching for J. S. returns 15.

Search results include a full name, office location, email, and phone number. If you need to search again you click the “Search Again?” link at the bottom of the results page.

If you don’t know the name of the person you need to contact but you know the name of the office or department you can use the “Office and Department Directory”. By default it’s located directly below the People Finder.
