National Library Week

Thigpen Library will join libraries of all types in a national, unified effort to increase awareness of the changing role of libraries and the ways in which libraries are transforming to meet the digital and print information needs of their users.

Rapid advances in technology are fueling a library renaissance.  No longer just places for books, libraries now offer an assortment of free digitally-based programs and services including 3-D printing, eBooks, digital recording studios and technology training. Such tech-based resources are transforming lives through digital literacy and lifelong learning, contributing to education, employment, entrepreneurship, engagement and empowerment. Yet libraries are often overlooked as catalysts for powerful individual and community change.

How has your library helped you to transform? What do you need from Thigpen Library to succeed as a student? Is there anything you wish you had known about the library before you started classes? What would you like new students to know about the library? Share your thoughts and ideas about what Thigpen Library can do to make your academic experience better, then come join in the fun!

  • Open Mic* on 4/13 from 1-2 pm: come share your talents! Express yourself through music, poetry, storytelling or anything you’d like to share.
  • Game Day* on 4/14 from 10-2: Ping Pong, board games, card games and more!
  • Secret Cinema all week long: Take a break from studying and go on a blind date with a movie! DVDs will be wrapped so you can’t see the title but we’ll give clues about what kind of movie you’re about to choose for your Secret Cinema Blind Date. You might find your new favorite flick!

For more information on how libraries are transforming their spaces and services for the today’s world, or to pledge your support for libraries in your community, go to www.ilovelibraries.org.

SUPER BLOG 50

This Saturday is the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl. Many of you will be gathered with friends to enjoy food, drink, and watch the big game. (I’m pulling for the old guy, Peyton Manning, myself).

According to Statista, Super Bowl XLIX (40) was the most-watched television program in U.S. history with 114.4 million viewers! (Just think about the tons of chips, dip and soda consumed!)
