You may have noticed that your eLearn dropbox looks a little different but can’t quite put your finger on what’s new. If you missed the earlier announcement that talked a little about the new layout, don’t sweat it. We’ll recap the major changes here for you.
With the improved list, instructors see information on the assignment name, the number of students who have completed the assignment, the number of students who have been evaluated, the number of students who have had feedback published, and the due date. This allows you to quickly determine what assignments you need to evaluate, including how far along you are and if you have published evaluations.
Students also have an updated view of the assignments list. They are now able to see the assignment name, the completion status (not submitted, submitted, completed), their score, the evaluation status (not yet evaluated; feedback: unread or read), and the due date. This change to the list view allows students to easily locate unfinished assignments, as well as access their scores and view instructor feedback on their work.
Another great addition to the dropbox has also been added: file-less submissions!
On-paper submission – This can be used to track paper-based assignment submissions, such as homework, an in-class test, paper, final exam, or project work.
Observed-in-person – This can be used to track an in-person demonstration of skill, or a presentation, or a lab test.
As the instructor, you will be able to leave feedback using text, audio, or video – allowing you more flexibility to make sure learners have the most appropriate feedback. For more in-depth detail about this new functionality, we encourage you to look at the About New Assignment Submission Types blog post in the Brightspace Community.
Assessing dropbox submissions has been updated as well. On the Submissions page, you can now click on a student’s name to access the Evaluate Submission page. Previously this action allowed you to email students. Emails can still be sent from the Submissions page by selecting the checkbox beside a student’s name and clicking Email.
Coming Soon: Annotating Submissions
The end of March brings an exciting addition to the way you are able to leave feedback for students. You will notice that you will soon be able to annotate submissions in the document viewer – making it that much easier for you!
